Dear Dave:

Comment posted on my blog this week:
Hey Jake,

My name is Dave. I am a huge fan of your blog. I had an idea for you to write.

Third Millennium Ministries to me is the best thing we have got going missions wise in the reformed faith. It perplexes me that when I ask people, "have you heard of this?" It seems they have never heard about it.

Check it out. http://www.thirdmill.org If you agree with me you can help get the word out. People listen to you. I can tell from the blog.

Dear Dave:

Thank you for your comment on my blog. Since I'm not the type of person to let these things slide, I thought it best to point out that my name is, in fact, Karin and not Jake. If you're going to continue to be such a huge fan, let's at least get my gender right.

Now that that's out of the way, let's talk about spam. While it certainly is a vehicle for getting your message out, much like the food, nobody likes it.

But I do agree with you that Third Millennium Ministries offers the very best training materials on the planet for biblical education. In fact, I believed in this organization so much that I left a fantastic job to work there. Which is why I found your comment even more ironic that it landed on my blog. Sometimes, knowing your audience is more important than the message itself. Just a thought.

Here's to creative marketing,
Karin

Why couldn’t Jake’s name have begun with an “E”?

WHOA! I got this comment in an email just a few weeks ago. Now I know for sure it was spam. I was skeptical, so this is what I had sent him in reply:

Dave,

I appreciate the email. I'm not usually like this...but I must admit I am a little skeptical as to whether or not you are serious, or if this is just to get some promo for ThirdMill.

You mentioned that you were a big fan, but I searched all the comments, and you've never commented before.

Also, if you read the blog you know that I am a student at RTS in Orlando, and that I have had Frame for a professor, and ThirdMill is talked about all the time at the school.

Please don't be offended by my skepticism, I've had emails trying to get me to promo stuff before, so I just want to make sure. I completely support the work of ThirdMill, and am happy to promote it. I just want to make sure that this is on the up and up.

And I don't know about people listening to me...my visitors dropped to an all-time low of 8 yesterday.

Argh. Needless to say, I never got a reply back. That's frustrating, especially when ThirdMill is the reputable and valuable resource that it is. Some people.

Thanks for saying hi on my blog, Karin. Looking forward to further interaction.
